beauty &
kindness
Obert C. Tanner had a number of lifelong passions. Among them: philosophy, the study of human nature, and an interest in philanthropy. The common theme throughout? “Beauty and kindness,” as he once observed.
In 1927 Obert C. Tanner began a business in the basement of his mother’s home. As an educator, Tanner believed students deserved more than a diploma to mark their graduation. And he began selling class rings and pins throughout Utah, later manufacturing his own.
Today that desire to reward people with tangible, lasting memories of their accomplishments lives on, in a global company that helps corporate clients appreciate people who do great work. And in the two magnificent jewelry stores that bear our founder’s name.
Jewelry caught Obert’s eye as a young clerk at Schubach’s Jewelry Store in Salt Lake, and he dreamed of creating “America’s most beautiful store.” A place filled with fine china, crystal and diamonds. Where Utah residents could purchase the best of the best without having to travel out-of-state. In 1976, Tanner fulfilled his dream by opening a retail jewelry store in downtown Salt Lake. Come see how we live that vision today.
